Day 1 Arrival in Christchurch

After arriving in Christchurch, collect your rental vehicle at the airport and take the short drive to your hotel. The afternoon is free to explore the city. Recommended sights include the Antarctic centre, public gardens and museums Christchurch is known for. Or take a stroll along the Avon river before you wind down for dinner.

Day 2Drive to Dunedin

Today, an interesting drive along the South Island’s East coast takes you through iconic landscapes. Brief stops at Rakaia to visit the salmon farm, at historic Ashburton and Timaru, at Moeraki to admire the spherical boulders and the beautiful Oamaru will make your drive pleasant, until you reach Dunedin, New Zealand’s first city. Visiting the colony of penguins, albatrosses and seals is highly recommended.

Day 3Journey to Te Anau

It is just over a 3 hour drive from Dunedin to Te Anau, meaning you have more time to explore Dunedin this morning. Or, set off early and experience some fascinating sights on the way. At Gore, you might like to visit the Hokonui pioneer village. Reaching Te Anau in the afternoon, there’s time to enjoy a walk on the shores of the famous lake.

Day 4Milford Sound Scenic Cruise

Starting after an early breakfast, take a leisurely drive through one of the most scenic road journeys in New Zealand. Either enroute to Milford Sound or on the return drive make sure to stop at the Disappearing Mountain, Mirror Lakes and the Homer tunnel. The cruise on the Milford Sound is a once in a lifetime experience. The 22km long deep water fjord offers spectacular sights of waterfalls from the high, forested cliffs surrounding the fjord. Enjoy a buffet lunch on the cruise and wander around the multi deck cruise boat to see nature’s grandeur and the wildlife like seals and penguins.

Day 5Drive to Queenstown

Today, you’ll make your way to Queenstown. En route stop to see the Devil’s Staircase. Kingston is good for a coffee break and learn about the Kingston Flyer a historic steam powered train. There are interesting lookout points as the road follows the shoreline of the Wakatipu lake right up to Queenstown. Spend the day exploring the city and possibly the afternoon to take the Gondola ride (optional) to the top Bob’s Peak.

Day 6Queenstown Sightseeing

Today you are free to explore the Queenstown area, with a huge number of activities to choose from. Popular options include a cruise on Lake Wakatipu, jet boating, or wine tasting. Or, if you are in a mood for sightseeing, historic Arrowtown, Cromwell, Glenorchy are well worth visiting.

Day 7Departure from Queenstown
